Conversion Methodology

ConverterBase uses stable unit definitions and fixed conventional factors. The calculators are generated from one reviewed unit table so each page, chart, search result, and alternate-unit answer uses the same math.

Primary references are NIST SI units, NIST U.S. customary-to-metric relationships, and the BIPM SI overview. Category pages link to the reference used for that family of units.

How pages are produced and checked

Converter pages are generated from a structured unit dataset so formulas, charts, search records, and calculator results cannot silently drift apart. Automation is used for consistency, not to invent facts or pad pages with rewritten text.

The build audits every pair route against the shared unit factors, checks reverse relationships, verifies every indexed URL, rejects duplicate titles and descriptions, and validates canonical URLs, structured data, internal links, source links, and page-level accessibility landmarks. New categories are added only when a stable reference factor and a practical use case are available.

Inspect or download the current unit dataset (JSON). It contains the source links, categories, symbols, and factors used by the calculators.

Exactness and rounding

Internal calculations keep more precision than the displayed result. Displayed numbers are shortened for readability, and formulas show the practical relationship used by the calculator.

Changing data

Fixed unit conversions never depend on market data. The currency converter is intentionally isolated: it requests the latest available dated rate from Frankfurter, shows the supplied date and source, and fails closed if a current response cannot be validated. It is not a trading or transaction quote. Electricity prices and other manually maintained market values remain excluded.
